Diadasia (Coquillettapis) rinconis Cockerell, 1897 View in CoL

[ ♀ Rincon , New Mexico, USA; July 5, 1896]

Diadasia rinconis is widely distributed in Mexico and the southern US, and it has been found in both peninsular states. This species’ flight season co-occurs with the bloom period of Cactaceae (March – June), which is its preferred pollen host plant (Sipes & Tepedino 2005). This species can be found in all ecoregions except for the Tropical Dry Forest and the Cape Mountains. SEMC reports specimens collected in the Gulf Coast and Sarcocaulescent Shrubland ( GBIF 2023). The CARCIB team collected 25 specimens (15 ♂, 10 ♀) in the Central Desert ( BC) in 2016; Vizcaíno Desert 2016, 2017, 2019; Gulf Coast in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018; and the Magdalena Plains and Sarcocaulescent Shrubland ( BCS) in 2016. Additionally, the BBPT collected 66 specimens (41 ♀, 25 ♂) across the Coastal Sage Matorral, Chaparral, Baja California Mountains, Lower Colorado Desert, Succulent Coastal Sage and Gulf Coast (Supplementary material 1). Voucher specimens are in MABC, and ECOAB. See fig. 96 .
