As the name suggests, H. cryptanthae specializes on pollen from Cryptantha Lehm. ex G. Don ( Boraginaceae ) ( Fowler 2020). This species was previously known only from California, USA and represents a new species record for Mexico. The BBPT collected one female in the Coastal Sage Matorral in May 2022 (MABC).
