Description:—See Hiratsuka et al. (1992).
Hosts and distribution in Japan:— II, III on Eleocharis congesta D. Don var. congesta (= E. japonica Boek. ) (Shi), E. congesta var. japonica (Miq.) T. Koyama (= E. japonica Miq. , E. pellucida var. japonica (Miq.) Tang & F.T. Wang ) (Hon, Shi) ( Ito 1950, Hiratsuka 1960, Morimoto 1969, Hiratsuka et a. 1992).
Notes:—Spermogonial and aecial stages have been reported on species of Eupatorium , but its occurrence has not been reported in Japan ( Ito 1950, Hiratsuka et al. 1992). This species is mainly distributed in North and Central America. Puccinia liberta Kern has been reported on species of Eleocharis from China and Taiwan ( Ito 1950, Hiratsuka & Chen 1991, Zhuang et al. 1998). Taxonomic relationship of this species with P. eleocharidis should be examined.
