Puccinia karelica Tranzschel
status

Puccinia karelica Tranzschel

Type:—No type specimen has been found.

Description:—See Hiratsuka et al. (1992).

Hosts and distribution in Japan:—0, I on Trientalis europaea L. (Hok); II, III on Carex middendorffii F.S chmidt var. middendorffii (Hok) ( Ito 1950, Hiratsuka 1960, Hiratsuka et al. 1992).

Notes:—Identity of this species should be re-examined because Azbukina (2005) treated this species as Puccinia caricina var. limosae (Magnus) Joerst. Spermogonial and aecial stages of this species have been reported as Aecidium trientalis Tranzschel on Trientalis europaea in Japan ( Ito 1950, Hiratsuka et al. 1992), but its life cycle connection should be reconfirmed. Although taxonomic evaluation of this species is required, it is widely reported in the world including China and Russian Far East ( Tai 1979, Zhuang et al. 1998, Azbukina 2005).
