Puccinia limosae Magnus

Type:— Holotype in BPI (081201).

Description:—See Hiratsuka et al. (1992).

Hosts and distribution in Japan:—0, I on Lysimachia mauritiaua Lam. (Hon, Shi); II, III on Carex hakonensis Franch. & Sav. (Hok), C. limosa L. (= C. limosa var. fuscocoprea Kük. ) (Hok, Hon), C. pseudocuraica F. Schmidt (Hok, Hon) ( Ito 1950, Hiratsuka 1960, Hiratsuka et al. 1992).

Notes:— Ito (1950) and Hiratsuka et al. (1992) reported this species based on specimens collected in Japan, but its identity and taxonomic treatment should be re-examined because this species has been treated as Puccinia caricina DC. or P. caricis Rebent. ( Zhuang et al. 1998, Azbukina 2005). They also reported spermogonial and aecial stages of this species as Aecidium lysimachiae Schwein. on Lysimachia mauritiaua , but its life cycle connection needs to be reconfirmed. This species is widely distributed in the world including China and Russian Far East ( Tai 1979, Zhuang et al. 1998, Azbukina2005).
