Taxonomy. Akodon juninensis Myers, Patton & M. F. Smith, 1990 , “ 22 km N La Oroya (by road), Depto. Junin, Peru. 4040 m.” This species is monotypic.

Distribution. W & E Andean slopes in Peru.

Descriptive notes. Head-body 97 mm,tail 62 mm, ear 12 mm, hindfoot 19-5 mm. No specific data are available for body weight. The Junin Grass Mouse is a small species of Akodon . Dorsum is brownish to pale olivaceous, heavily lined with black; venter has hairs with whitish or buffy tips; hairs on chin and sometimes upper throat are unicolored and white; and tail is densely furred and sharply bicolored. Chromosomal complement is 2n = 40, FN = 40.

Habitat. Puna grassland habitats, crop fields, dense bunchgrass in well-drained and fine-grained soils, and sparse perennial forests at elevations of 2700-3800 m.
