Taxonomy. Akodon sanctipaulensis Hershkovitz, 1990 , Primeiro Morro, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Akodon sanctipaulensis is a poorly known form. Monotypic.

Distribution. Known only from few localities in the Sierra do Mar in Sao Paulo State, SE Brazil.

Descriptive notes. Head-body 73-100 mm, tail 58-75 mm, ear 12-16 mm, hindfoot 23-24 mm. No specific data are available for body weight. The Sao Paulo Grass Mouse is a medium-sized species of Akodon . Dorsum is dark, with ocherous bands on guard hairs and expanded melanic bands; venter and sides are similar to dorsum; tail is weakly bicolored and covered with short hairs; forefeet and hindfeet are covered with dark basal bands and white-tipped hair; and ungual tufts are long, extending beyond distal limits of claws.

Habitat. Montane and submontane dense evergreen forest in the Atlantic Forest.
