TYPE LOCALITY: Australia, Tasmania .

DISTRIBUTION: Tasmania.

STATUS: CITES - Appendix I pe [possibly extinct]; U.S. ESA - Endangered; IUCN - Extinct.

SYNONYMS: breviceps, communis, harrisii , lucocephalus, striatus.

COMMENTS: Probably extinct; but tracks and sightings continue to be reported; see Ride (1970:201).
