Steganopsis de Meijere, 1909 View in CoL
Steganopsis de Meijere, 1909 : LIII. Type species: Steganopsis pupicola de Meijere, 1909 by monotypy.
Remarks. The genus is easily identified by the following characters: face prominently convex, with or without a pair of black spots; frons with or without a narrow middle stripe, anteriormost or inclinate; antenna elongate, first flagellomere slender and longer than scape + pedicel; mesonotum with 0+2 or 0+3 dc, acr in 2 or 4 rows; wing distinctively rounded, R 2+3 curving forward to costa, arching and extending close to wing tip (Stuckenburg, 1971).
The genus Steganopsis is similar to the genus Pachycerina (Macquart, 1835) , but can be separated from the latter by vein R 2+3 curving forward close to upper margin of wing, expect S. divergens Frey, 1927 , which has vein R 2+3 paralleling with upper margin of wing. In the male genitalia, the syntergosternite combines as a whole piece in Steganopsis ( Figs 5 View Figures 4–8 , 10 View Figures 9–13 , 15 View Figures 14–18 ), but the genus Pachycerina has the syntergosternite splits on both sides (see Shi et al., 2009: figs 15–16).
