TYPE LOCALITY: N Namibia, C Koakoveld, Otjitundua .

DISTRIBUTION: W Namibia, S Angola, restricted to the Kaokoland escarpment of Namibia and Angola as far north as 14°10'S 16°0'E.

COMMENTS: Subgenus Geosciurus . Distinction from X. inauris supported by minor chromosomal differences reported by Robinson et al. (1986).
