TYPE LOCALITY: Restricted by Howell (1929:14) to "upper Savannah River, S[outh] Cfarolina]." [ USA].
DISTRIBUTION: S Manitoba and Nova Scotia ( Canada) to Louisiana, Alabama, and Georgia, east to Atlantic Coast ( USA).
SYNONYMS: americanus Gmelin, 1788; doorsiensis Long, 1971; fisheri A. Howell, 1925; griseus Mearns, 1891 ; lysteri (Richardson, 1829); ohioensis Bole and Moulthrop, 1942; peninsulae Hooper, 1942; pipilans Lowery, 1943; quebecensis Cameron, 1950; rufescens Bole and Moulthrop, 1942; venustus Bangs, 1896.
