( Figs 14 View FIGURES 13 – 15 , 29 View FIGURES 16 – 30 , 40 View FIGURES 31 – 41 , 66–68 View FIGURES 66 – 68 )
Calopterum (Falsocaenia) aurantiacocostatum Pic, 1932: 254 .
Idiopteron (Falsocaenia) aurantiacocostatum: Kleine, 1933 .
Type material. Lectotype. „ Columbia, S. Antonio “, 1 male ( NHMB). Paralectotype. Colombia: „ Villa Elvira , Cauca “, 1 male ( NHMB).
Diagnosis. It is the only Falsocaenia species with orange elytral costae.
Redescription. Body dark brown to black, only longitudinal and transverse elytral costae, apex of elytra and sometimes lateral margins of pronotum orange ( Figs 29 View FIGURES 16 – 30 ).
Head with small eyes, distance between eyes 1.8x longer than eye diameter. Mandibles small, arcuate. Antennae serrate ( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 31 – 41 ), reaching elytral midlength. Pronotum 1.2x wider basally than long medially, posterior angles acute, lateral margins of pronotum sometimes orange. Scutellum black. Elytra slightly widened posteriorly, 3.8x longer than humeral width, each elytron with 3 costae, only humeral portion with rudiments of costa 3 present, showing 4 costae basally. Male genitalia with paramerae as long as ¾ of phallus, phallus apically slender, elliptical ( Figs 66–68 View FIGURES 66 – 68 ). Female unknown. Body length. 8–9 mm, humeral width 1.8–2 mm.
Distribution. Colombia.
Comment. Pic (1932) described F. aurantiacocostatum under the generic name Calopterum which has never been described, and therefore is invalid. Pic (1932) probably intended to include F. aurantiacocostata in the genus Calopteron . Kleine (1933) placed this species in the subgenus Falsocaenia within the genus Idiopteron . As Falsocaenia is now considered to be a separate genus with distant relationships to Idiopteron ( Bocakova 2005) , Idiopteron aurantiacocostatum ( Pic, 1932) is transferred to the genus Falsocaenia.
As the two syntypes of Falsocaenia aurantiacocostata from NHMB differ in the coloration of the pronotum, the specimen that corresponds to the description is designated as the lectotype.
