REMARKS
Grapsus peroni was dedicated to François Péron, who attended the Baudin Expedition to the “ Terres Australes ” (1800-1804) ( Baudin 1974), i.e., the southern coast of Australia, at that time “ Nouvelle-Hollande [ New Holland]”. The other name on the original label refers to Charles-Alexandre Lesueur, also a member of the Baudin Expedition (see Appendix).
Crosnier (1965: 17) could not find the type of this species in the MNHN collection. Davie (2002: 213), however, presumed the presence of syntypes, but a single specimen was found in the MNHN.
