Holotype: SPAIN: ♀, Murcia, Cieza Rambla del Judio , 250 m. a. s., 21 Apr. 2016, Asteleitner leg. ( OÖLM).

Etymology: The name ziczac refers to the strange shape of the epicnemial carina.

Diagnosis: A large species. Similar to Ophion mediterraneus sp. nov. but with the epicnemial carina with a different shape, fewer flagellomeres and the temples wider and the posterior transverse carina of propodeum complete.

Description: Male unknown. Fore wing length 19 mm. Body length 23 mm. Antennae with 56 flagellomeres. Temple behind compound eyes, in lateral view about 0.6 × as long as compound eye ( Fig. 18D View FIGURE 18 ). Malar space narrow, 0.2 × the width of the mandibular base. Space between compound eye and lateral ocellus narrow, about 0.2 × the diameter of ocellus. Face ( Fig. 18C View FIGURE 18 ), in anterior view, about two × as wide as compound eye. Occipital carina dorsally evenly curved. Face below antennal sockets with small rather weak punctures on a polished background, interstices between punctures about equal or more to their diameter. Clypeus shagreened with large, irregular punctures. Mandibular gape right angled, with internal angles. First flagellomere about 4.0 × as long as wide. Central flagellomeres about 1.5 × as long as wide. Mesoscutum polished with very scarce and indistinct punctures, space between punctures about 4 × their diameter. Mesopleuron polished irregularly rugulose (almost as in O. rugipleuris sp. nov.). Epicnemial carina, in antero-ventral view, with pleurosternal very strong, in line with sternal angles. The sternal part of the epicnemial carina angeled which together with the pleurosternal angle creates a zigzag-shape. Scutellum without lateral carinae, strongly convex in lateral view. Propodeum weakly rugulose with all carinae strong ( Fig. 18B View FIGURE 18 ), the anterior transverse carina conspicuously distant from the anterior margin of propodeum. Sclerotised part of first sternite ending level to spiracle. Hind trochantellus shorter than wide in dorsal view. Hind femur slender, about 8.0 × as long as wide. Inner spur of hind tibia about 0.3 × as long as hind metatarsus. Wing membrane clear. Ramellus in fore wing very short, reaching 0.1 × the width of the discosubmarginal cell. Discocubitus conspicuously angled. Outer part of radius quite strongly sinuous, its inner part straight and not widened before junction with pterostigma. Nervellus broken in the middle by the discoidella.

Colouration: Body quite dark with the typical coloration of the Ophion obscuratus aggregate, reddish. Inner and outer orbits widely whitish ( Figs 18A–D View FIGURE 18 ). Mandibular teeth black.

DNA Barcode: The DNA barcode sequence of one specimen of Ophion ziczac sp. nov. is available at the BOLD systems database: sample id. NJP678, sequence id. LNU2514-21.
