Habitat. Attached by a moderate byssus to the undersides of dead coral blocks.
Distribution. Has been found only once at 10 m in the channel south of Ile Hermitage.
Remarks. This is a large species to be included in the genus Acar but its coarse ribbing and lack of a bristly periostracum separate it from the genus Barbatia . It is the A. caelata of Reeve, 1844, which is a preoccupied name.
Range. Western Indian Ocean [R/M].
Figured specimen. 53.1 mm, NMW.Z.1999.073.00007.
