Additional species included. Pogonodon davisi Merriam, 1906
Range. Oligocene of Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Montana, Oregon, USA .
Bouchet (1985) described a new species of marine snail, Cosmotriphora pseudocanarica Bouchet , later considered by Bouchet (1997) to represent a new monotypic genus, Pogonodon . Several authors have included Pogonodon pseudo- canarica in species checklists ( Oliverio 2008, Vazzana 2010) and extended its distribution range ( Scuderi & Criscione 2011) but none of them commented on the homonymy with Pogonodon Cope, 1880 . Until now no other species has been assigned to Pogonodon Bouchet, 1997 . In the literature there is no available name to replace Pogonodon Bouchet, 1997 , therefore we propose Ionthoglossa as a substitute name. The diagnosis of the new genus is the same as the “Description” of Pogonodon provided by Bouchet (1997), which is translated and reproduced here.
