Dimensions: 516 μm long, 28.2 μm wide, 25 striae in 10 μm.

Diagnostics: Very long sturdy cells attached the short, stout mucilage stalks. Valvocopula with prominent ladder-like transverse septa.

Comments: Differs from the only other species of Climacosphenia , C. moniligera , in tapering abruptly one third to one half the way from the apex to a narrow “stem,” whereas C. moniligera has a continuous taper; the latter is often but not always curved.
