Samples: Moen1_ Halimeda View in CoL

Dimensions: 39.2 μm long, 16.5 μm wide; 12 striae in 10 μm.

Diagnostics: Oval cells with half-lanceolate longitudinal canals occupying up to half of the valve width; areolae on the valve surface often appearing to be in single rows, no pores evident on the longitudinal canals which are crossed by transverse ribs continuing the line of the striae.

Comments: Despite D. nitescens being frequently observed from tropical and subtropical regions ( Stidolph et al. 2012), it has not been previously reported in Micronesia. It differs from D. smithii in the relative width of the longitudinal canal, and lack of pores on them.
