Lathrolestes palatynus sp. nov.

Figs 33–36 View FIGURES 33 – 36 .

Diagnosis. This species differs from the similar European species L. verticalis (Brischke, 1871) by area petiolaris defined, larger body length, petiolate areolet, ovipositor without notch. From the closed related L. cruenocaudus sp. nov., this species differs by sparse and fine punctures of mesopleuron ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 33 – 36 ), pectinate claws, longer ovipositor sheath, yellowish legs ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 33 – 36 ).

Description. Body length 7–10 mm. Antenna with 30–36 flagellomeres. Scape 0.52 × as long as wide. Head narrowed behind eyes; matt. Maximum length of temple 0.79 × transverse eye diameter; minimum length of temple 0.6 × transverse eye diameter. Face 1.15 × height of eye; in dorsolateral profile flat, medially not bulging ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 33 – 36 ). Head with impression on side from ocelli. Clypeus separated by impression; at apex projecting slightly anteriorly; apical margin of clypeus obtuse. Tentorial fossa large and elongate. Malar space 0.65 × basal mandible width. Lower mandible tooth longer than upper. Occipital carina medially complete.

Notaulus distinct. Mesopleuron dimly shiny, with distinct fine and sparse punctures ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 33 – 36 ). Postnotum bordered by carina only at base. Tarsi with apical article not enlarged. Claws pectinate by large teeth. Fore wing with areolet petiolate. Radius intercepting stigma before its middle. Second recurrent vein with single bulla. Hind wing with nervellus intercepted below middle. Nervulus intersitial. Propodeum with carinae partly complete. Only area petiolaris distinctly raised ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 33 – 36 ).

Metasoma shiny, sparsely setose. First metasomal tergite 0.81 × as long as apically wide; without shallow median longitudinal impression; bordered by lateral longitudinal carinae; dorsal longitudinal carinae defined at base. Second metasomal tergite wider than longer. Ovipositor elongate, 0.7 × as long as metasoma and 1.3 × as long as metasomal height, straight, without subapical notch ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 33 – 36 ).

Color. Body mostly black ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 33 – 36 ). Antenna yellowish. Maculae and malar space, first and mid coxa and apex of hind coxa yellow. Legs, lower part of metasomal tergites and mostl of seventh and eighth metasomal tergites yellow-reddish. Male unknown.

Variation: Dorsal longitudinal carinae absent but sometimes vestigial. There is variation in body length and numbers of flagellomeres.
