Head black, except mandible, clypeus and ante- rior region of frons (more along orbits) reddish (in specimen from Tanzania, 04°15.60’S 38°26.35’E, occiput and temple partly ferruginous); antenna brown, except scape and pedicel yellow or testaceous; pronotum black, with reddish nuances; rest of mesosoma and metasoma black (in specimen from Tanzania, 04°15.60’S 38°26.35’E, mesosoma completely ferruginous-testaceous and metasoma testaceous, with brown transverse stripes); legs yellow, except meso- and metacoxa and clubs of pro- and metafemur brownish (in specimen from Tanzania, 04°15.60’S 38°26.35’E, legs completely ferruginous). Head excavated, shiny, bare, smooth, with some short keels near the ocelli; lateral regions of occiput rugose, setose; temple sticking out, reticulate rugose and crossed by longitudinal keel. Antenna clavate; antennomeres of holotype in following proportions: 10:10:22:21:17:13:11:10:10:11; antennomeres of specimen from Tanzania, 04°15.60’S 38°26.35’E, in following proportions: 8:10:18:17:14:12:9:8:7:9. Third antennomere as broad as 2. POL = 1; OL = 2; OOL = 8. Palpal formula 5/2. Pronotum crossed by strong transverse impression, granulate. Mesoscutum very long, about 3 × as long as broad (15:5), dull, granulate. Mesoscutellum shiny, smooth, circular. Stalk between pronotum and metanotum ( Fig. 229A View FIGURE 229 ) composed of mesoscutum + mesoscutellum (in almost all other Gonatopus species, stalk only composed of mesoscutum), about 4 × as long as broad (20:5). Metanotum very long, transversely striate, not excavated behind mesoscutellum. Metapectal-propodeal disc dull, with four median longitudinal keels, and, in some specimens, with track of median longitudinal furrow; propodeal declivity transversely striate. Mesopleuron and metapleuron transversely striate. Meso-metapleural suture distinct and complete. Protarsomere 1 slightly longer than 4 (17:16). Protarsomeres of specimen from Tanzania, 04°15.60’S 38°26.35’E, in following proportions: 18:3:4.5:17:26. Enlarged claw ( Fig. 223A View FIGURE 223 ) with one small subapical tooth and 5–6 lamellae or peg-like setae. Protarsomere 5 ( Fig. 223A View FIGURE 223 ) with one row of 17–23 lamellae; apex with 11–20 lamellae. Tibial spurs 1/0/1.
