Type species: Protostomopsis pandema Bukejs, Ślipiński et Alekseev sp. nov., by present designation.
Diagnosis. Protostomopsis gen. nov. can easily be distinguished from Ostomopsis Scott, 1922 in having antenna with 11 antennomeres and two terminal antennomeres forming loose antennal club (decamerous with club composed of fused antennomeres 10 and 11, with distinct constriction bearing peculiar sensillum in Ostomopsis ), and the elytron bearing 10 rows of punctures (8 or 9 in Ostomopsis ).
Etymology. The new genus-group name Protostomopsis is composed of the ancient Greek prefix “proto-” (meaning “first”, “prior to”, “before”) and the genus name “ Ostomopsis ”. The gender is feminine.
