Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 4.05–4.61mm; female, 3.99–4.66mm. Width, male, 2.25–2.70mm; female, 2.02–2.53mm. As for T. denticulata except elytra with disk convex, not flattened, and with striae not impressed; abdomen with ventrite 1 sloping anteriad but not impressed or tuberculate, ventrite 5 with pair of large basal punctures and median row of 4 smaller punctures, the middle 2 confluent and appearing as a transverse impression, no apical excavation; hind tibiae without teeth. Geographical distribution. México (Hidalgo, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí), the most extensive range of any Theognete species .

Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of cloud forest and mixed oak forest leaf litter at elevations ranging from 1050–1700m; one specimen taken on wood chips of cut oak.

Derivation of specific name. Named from the Latin cavu, meaning hole, and venter, meaning belly, in reference to the deeply excavated mesosternum and metasternum.
