3. Brookea celebica Adema View in CoL , spec. nov.

Type: — SULAWESI. Menado, subdiv. Poso, between Boro & S. Malei , 11 Aug. 1937, Eyma 1657 (holotype L [ L0772480 ]; isotypes A [00351272], BO [BO-1392136], K, SING [0197294], U [ U0255774 ]) ( Fig. 3) .

More or less similar to B. albicans because of the length of the petioles and the indumentum of the upper surface of the leaves. Petioles 1.0– 2.8 cm long, ± tomentose with long dendroid hairs ( B. albicans : petioles 0.5–2.1(–7.5) cm long, densely stellate hairy). Bracts 15 by 5 mm, outside tomentose with long dendroid and simple hairs, inside sericeous, mainly with simple hairs. Pedicels 3–5 mm long. Bracteoles c. 5 mm long. Calyx c. 13 mm long. Short stamens 11 mm long, longer ones 13 mm long.

Treelet? Twigs terete, 7 mm diameter, ± tomentose with rather long dendroid hairs, simple hairs rare. Leaves ± elliptic, 13–37.5 by 4.6–14 cm, index 2.2–2.8, base decurrent, apex acute or acuminate, above with scattered stellate hairs, midrib densely villous, glabrescent, below tomentose with stellate and dendroid hairs, midrib sunken above, nerves flat above, 10–13 per side, 7–23 mm apart; petiole 1.0– 2.8 cm long, ± grooved, ± tomentose with long dendroid hairs. Inflorescences 7–9.5 cm long, peduncle 1 cm long, ± tomentose with long dendroid hairs. Bracts narrowly ovate, c. 15 by 5 mm, outside ± tomentose with long dendroid and simple hairs, inside sericeous with mainly simple hairs. Pedicels 3–5 mm long, ± tomentose. Bracteoles linear, 5 by 0.6 mm, outside ± tomentose, inside ± sericeous. Calyx tubular, 13 mm long, tube 10–11 mm long, teeth of upper lip orbicular 3 by 3 mm, teeth of lower lip semicircular, 1–1.5 by 1–2 mm; outside densely villous with long dendroid and simple hairs, inside sericeous with mainly simple hairs. Corolla yellow, 26 mm long, tube 21 mm long, widened upwards, upper lip semicircular, 5 by 10 mm, deeply notched, lateral lobes of lower lip ± elliptic, 5 by 4 mm, median lobe ovate, 5 by 3 mm; outside densely sericeous at widened part of the tube and the lobes, inside middle part of the lobes of the lower lip sericeous. Stamens: filaments glabrous, shorter ones 11 mm long, longer ones 13 mm long; anthers 1.5 by 2 mm; staminode 10 mm long, glabrous. Ovary ovoid, 5 by 3 mm, glabrous; style 15 mm long, glabrous; stigmas ovate, c. 2 by 1 mm, glabrous.

Distribution: — Sulawesi: Central Sulawesi (Poso) ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).

Habitat: —Edge of forest. Elevation: 1020–1700 m.

Phenology: —Flowering: August, September.

Notes: —The indumentum of this species mainly consists of long dendroid hairs mixed with some stellate hairs and, especially in the inflorescence, with some long simple hairs. Among the Bornean species, it is closest to B. albicans because of the leaf upper surface indumentum and the length of the petioles. However, B. celebica differs from B. albicans in the indumentum (more tomentose with long dendroid hairs), the shape of the leaves, the decurrent leaf bases, larger bracts, shorter pedicels, smaller calyces, presence of hairs at the lower lip of the corolla, longer filaments and smaller anthers and the presence of a staminode. B. celebica is in indumentum a bit similar to B. dasyantha , however, the longer hairs are mainly dendroid, while those of B. dasyantha are mainly simple.
