5. Brookea linduensis Adema , spec. nov.

Type: — SULAWESI. Area of Mount Nokilalaki, southeast of lake Lindu, to Kulawi , c. 1°13’S, 120°8’E, 3 May. 1975, Meijer 9985 (holotype L [ L0772479 ]; isotype BO [BO-1622037]) ( Fig. 4) .

More or less similar to B. albicans because of the indumentum of the upper surface of the leaves and the globular fruits with a torn calyx, and to B. tomentosa because of the long petioles. Petioles 6.5 cm long. Bases of leaves decurrent along the petiole. Calyx 17 mm long, tube 12 mm long. Ovary 6 by 3.5 mm, style 11 mm long.

Treelet? Twigs terete, 7–12 mm diameter, densely stellate-hairy. Leaves ± ovate, 46 by 19.5 cm, index 2.3, base decurrent, apex acute or acuminate, above very thinly stellate-hairy, simple hairs rare, below thinly stellate hairy, midrib slightly sunken above, nerves flat or slightly raised above, c. 13 per side, c. 22 mm apart; petiole 6.5 cm long, densely stellate-hairy. Inflorescences 15.5 cm long, peduncle 2 cm long, densely stellate-hairy. Bracts triangular, 7–13 by 3–4 mm, outside densely villous, hairs dendroid or stellate, inside sericeous, hairs stellate or simple. Pedicels 5 mm long, densely stellate-hairy. Calyx tubular, 17 mm long, tube 12 mm long, teeth of upper lip?, teeth of lower lip (obliquely) ovate, 2–3 by 3–4 mm; outside densely stellate-hairy, inside very thinly sericeous, hairs mostly simple; in fruit ± globose, ± torn. Corolla green-yellow, with 2 yellow lines. Ovary ovoid, 6 by 3.5 mm, glabrous; style 14 mm long, glabrous; stigma 2 by 2 mm, glabrous. Fruits ± globular, 15 by 12 mm, glabrous. Seeds discoid, 0.5 by 0.6 mm, slightly pitted.

Distribution: — Sulawesi: Central Sulawesi (Mount Nokilalaki) ( Fig. 1 ).

Habitat: —Elevation: c. 1000 m.

Phenology: —Flowering and fruiting: May.

Notes: —This species is only known from the type, which is quite incomplete, comprising only a few leaves and an inflorescence with fruits and buds. The indumentum consists mainly of stellate and dendroid hairs with a variable number of arms; simple hairs are rare. The leaf base is long decurrent, making it difficult to see where the blade ends and the petiole begins. Among the Bornean species, it is closest to either B. albicans because of the thinly hairy upper surface of the leaves and the ± globular fruits with a torn calyx, or to B. tomentosa because of the long petioles. From B. albicans , B. linduensis differs in the length of the petioles, the length of the inflorescences and the size of the fruits. From B. tomentosa , it differs in the decurrent leaf bases and the ± globular fruits with torn calyx. From B. celebica , it differs in the length of the petioles and the length of the inflorescences.
