Coelindroma cornuta View in CoL sp. nov.

Figs 1–11 View FIGURES 1 – 11 , 23, 26 View FIGURES 23 – 28. 23 and 26 C

Diagnosis. Head, in frontal view, without black markings on frons; in lateral view, with subtle preapical tubercle on crown ( Figs 2–3 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ); pygofer, in lateral view, parallelogram-shaped ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ); subgenital plates, in ventral view, not fused at apical half, without macrosetae ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ); style, in lateral view, with apical half slightly at angle with apical base, preapical lobe reduced, and apex slightly curved ventrally ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ); aedeagus with pair of long apical divergent processes ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ).

Measurements (mm). Male holotype: total length 5.7; crown median length 0.68; transocular width 1.10; interocular width 0.59; frons basal width 0.53; frons length 0.88; pronotum median length 0.56; width between humeri 1.28; mesonotum median length 0.94; mesonotum maximum width 1.06; forewing length 4.25; forewing maximum width.

General color. Body yellow ( Figs 23, 26 View FIGURES 23 – 28. 23 and 26 C ). Crown pale-yellow, with large black median circular macula on anterior half, posterior half and two lateral longitudinal bands extending to the antennal ledge, orange; antennal flagellum brown ( Figs 1–3 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ). Pronotum pale-yellow; median longitudinal band, wider anteriorly than posteriorly, two subtriangular spots on anterior margin, and two subquadrangular spots on anterolateral angles, orange. Mesonotum with pair of large subtriangular maculae on basal half and pair of small spots anterad of preapical groove, paleorange ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ). Forewings hyaline with inner margin of apical third fuscous. Hindwings pale-yellow hyaline with yellow venation. Legs pale-yellow.

Description. Head, in frontal view, without black spots on upper portion of the frons, and, in lateral view, with subtle preapical tubercle in the crown ( Figs 2–3 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ). Male pygofer, in lateral view, parallelogram-shaped; apex acute; ventral margin produced ventrally with apex acute and sclerotized (= ventral hook in Kramer, 1967) ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ). Subgenital plates, in ventral view, constricted at apical two-thirds; fused in basal half; without macrosetae ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ); in lateral view, as long as pygofer; curved and strongly concave dorsally; with dorsal margin gradually descending towards apex; without dorsal preapical tooth ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ). Styles extending posteriorly slightly further than connective apex ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ); in lateral view, slender, with apical half slightly at angle with apical base; preapical lobe reduced; apex sclerotized, slightly curved ventrally, with some preapical setae ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ). Connective, in dorsal view, Yshaped; about two-thirds the length of styles; articulated to the basis of the aedeagus; ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ). Aedeagus, in lateral and dorsal view, slender and elongate, except for broad apical region; with pair of long apical processes curved anteriorly ( Figs 9–10 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ), and, in posterior view, with apices acute and divergent ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ); preatrium as long as the shaft, dorsal apodeme short ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 1 – 11 ). Female unknown.

Geographical distribuition. Brazil (Amazonas).

Specimens examined. Male holotype (INPA), with following labels: “ BRASIL, Amazonas, Ipixuna, Rio\ Liberdade, Estirão da Preta\ 07°21’46.7’’S – 71°52’07.1’’W; 11–15.v.2011, Arm. Luminosa\ R. Andreazze & D. M. Takiya leg.; Holótipo\ Coelindroma cornuta \ Gonçalves, Marques-Costa & Ale-Rocha\ 2011 ”.

Holotype condition. Thorax ventrally glued to a triangle by left side; entire wings glued to each other; prothoracic and mesothoracic legs glued to the triangle, metathoracic tibiae missing; abdomen dissected.

Etymology. The species name refers to the processes of the aedeagus, which easily differentiate it from other species of the genus.

Comments. Coelindroma cornuta sp. nov. resembles C. fungoma in the color pattern; subgenital plates without macrosetae and, in lateral view, with dorsal margin gradually descending towards apex; styles with preapical lobe reduced; and aedeagus with large preapical bump on dorsal margin. However, it can be easily distinguished from this and other species of the genus by the shape and length of the apical aedeagal processes.
