Type species: Neocarus texanus Chamberlin & Mulaik 1942:127 View in CoL , by original designation.
Etymology: Although there is no information on terminology, is assumed to be “New mite” spelling, from Latin neo (new) + Greek akari (mite).
Note: The genus name has been incorrectly spelled as Neoacarus by some authors ( Armas 2010: 64; Bernardi et al. 2012: 53, 2013a: 789, 2014: 55; Walter & Proctor 1998: 49).
