Cynonycteris torquata Dobson, 1878 View in CoL
Dobson, G. E. (1878) Catalogue of the Chiroptera in the Collection of the British Museum. Trustees of the British Museum. London. 76 [1–567].
Valid name: Myonycteris torquata (Dobson, 1878)
Referred specimens (marked with type *): ZMB 6757- 6760 View Materials , bodies in alcohol, skulls not extracted, male, female and pulli; “Bismarckburg” [= Yegue], Togo; collected by Büttner, probably in 1890–1891 .
Comment: Although Matschie (1893: 168; 1899: 64) mentioned the locality for the collection of the type specimens, no reference was made to any of the specimens. Dobson (1878) designated a male in alcohol as [holo-] type ( BMNH 1866.1.20.4; see Andersen 1912: 581) . Since ZMB 6757 – 6770 View Materials were collected by Büttner in 1890/1891, many years after the species description, they cannot be types .
