Valid name: Nyctiellus lepidus (Gervais, 1837)
Referred specimen (marked with type *): ZMB 2829 View Materials , body in alcohol, skull extracted; Cabo Cruz, Cuba; collected by J. Gundlach.
Comment: Gundlach (1877: 32) found the first specimens of this new species in 1839 on [coffee plantation] San Antonio el Fundador, Canimar, Matanzas, Cuba. The next specimen of Vespertilio barbatus was not recorded until 1857 near Cabo Cruz. Thus ZMB 2829 View Materials from Cabo Cruz cannot be a type specimen. ZMB 2829 View Materials was also wrongly labelled as 2828, according to the catalogue entry ZMB 2828 View Materials is “ Vesperus dutertreus ” Gervais .
