Vespertilio Horsfieldii Temminck, 1840 View in CoL
Temminck, C. J. (1840) Monographies de mammalogie, ou Description de quelques genres de mammifères, dont les espèces ont été observées dans les différens musées de l'Europe. Tome 2: 226 [1–392]. Leiden, 1835–1841.
Valid name: Myotis horsfieldii (Temminck, 1840)
Syntype (marked with type * by Peters): ZMB 2558 View Materials , body in alcohol, skull extracted, female; Java, Indonesia; ex RMNH .
Comment: Jentink (1888: 186) listed five “cotypes” in RMNH from Java , Mt. Gede , coll. Boie; however, Temminck (1840) had named Kuhl & van Hasselt as collectors, given the type locality as the area of Buitenzorg (= Bogor) on Java , and based his description on 14 specimens. ZMB 2558 View Materials is probably a syntype. Tate (1940: 9) recorded four “cotypes” in RMNH, leg. Kuhl & van Hasselt, from Mt. Gédé in Java .
