Valid name: Neoromicia nanus (Peters, 1852) . Note: For using nanus instead of the older name africanus (Rüppell, 1842) see Simmons (2005: 494).
Syntypes: ZMB 588 View Materials (three specimens), bodies in alcohol, skulls extracted, two females and one male, adults; Inhambane, Mozambique; collected by W.C.H. Peters, between 1843 and 1847 .
Comment: Specimens BMNH 1907.1 .4.421 (skin and skull, adult?) and 1907.1.4.422 (skin, female, adult) are identified as “cotypes”. Another syntype is in the NMW (19644, in alcohol, male, adult) .
