Syntypes (marked with type *): ZMB 2569 View Materials [a–d] (four specimens), bodies in alcohol, skulls not extracted; Java, Indonesia; collected by Kuhl & van Hasselt, between 1820 and September 1821; in exchange from RMNH .
Comment: Jentink (1888: 176) listed four or five [syn-]type specimens [unclear enumeration] in the RMNH from Java, Bantam, leg. Kuhl & van Hasselt. Tate (1940: 9) listed at least eight cotypes: three specimens (“a - c”, mounted skins with skulls inside); five skulls (without skins) “d - h”, and three skeletons “a - c”, as well as BMNH 1844.4.4.224 (specimen “d”, probably by exchange); all leg. van Hasselt, Bantam, Java. The BMNH specimen, if “d” of Jentink’s catalogue (1888: 176), comes from “ Celebes ” (= Sulawesi, Indonesia). SMF 12389 is also identified as a syntype.
