Syntypes: ZMB 2622 View Materials , body in alcohol, skull extracted, male; Batjan [Bacan], Moluccas, Indonesia; collected by H.A. Bernstein, 1863 . ZMB 2918 View Materials , skin and skull, female; Batjan [Bacan], Moluccas, Indonesia; collected by A . R. Wallace , between 1856 and 1863, ex BMNH.

Comment: ZMB 2918 View Materials was identified as “ Rhinolophus megaphyllus Gray ” by Tomes, and was later described by Peters as new. Bernstein´s specimen, ZMB 2622 View Materials , was marked by Peters with a type * and the annotation “Ex. orig. Rhinolophus truncatus Ptrs … ” [original specimen for description of Rhinolophus truncatus …] .
