Phyllorhina swinhoei Peters, 1871
Peters, W. C. H. (1871) In Swinhoe, R.: Catalogue of the mammals of China (south of the River Yangtse) and of the Island of Formosa. Proceedings of the zoological Society of London, 1870: 616 [615–653]; London (1871). Bats submitted to W. Peters, who supplied names and descriptions of n.sp.
Valid name: Hipposideros armiger (Hodgson, 1835)
Holotype (identified by Pohle (1943: 323)): ZMB 3996 View Materials , skin, skull extracted (for description), female; Cave near Amoy (= Xiamen, Fujian), China; collected by Swinhoe, 1867.
Paratypes (marked with type *; same locality, collector, and date as for the holotype) : ZMB 3946 View Materials , skin (missing) and skull (extracted ca. 1940) . ZMB 3947 View Materials , skin and skull . ZMB 3995 View Materials , skull (extracted ca 1940), female . ZMB 3997 View Materials , skin and skull (missing), male .
Comment: Pohle (1943: 321) identified that specimens in the BMNH, listed by Dobson (1878) as [syn-] types, on the basis that their data were identical to those sent by Swinhoe to Peters, do not have any nomenclaturial status. Pohle (1943: 323), however, erred in identifiying P.swinhoei as a senior synonym of Hipposideros pratti Thomas 1891 .
