Valid name: Nycteris thebaica E. Geoffroy, 1818

Syntypes: ZMB 2794 View Materials (two specimens), bodies in alcohol, skulls extracted, males; “Bogos[land], Abyssinien” = Country of the Bogos, Eritrea; collected by Th. von Heuglin, 1852, ex SMNS.

Comment: Heuglin described labiata from various specimens, but designated no holotype. Two further syntypes are in the collections of SMNS (980a–b), one syntype presumably in RMNH (listed in Jentink 1888: 171) .
