Type species of genus Megaloglossus Pagenstecher, 1885 .

Holotype: ZMB 54589 (old number = EK 9489 ), skin and skull, female, adult; “Ssibange Farm”, Gabon; collected by H. Soyaux, 21 January 1885, ex ZMH.

Comment: For a long time, this specimen could not be located in ZMH and it was feared that the holotype was lost during World War II ( Bergmans 1997: 63). However, in 1980 the holotype was discovered at ZMB .
