Records from the study area: Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu—Cook (1967); West Bengal— Lundblad (1969); Prasad (1974).
Habitat: Lakes and ponds.
Distribution: India.
Piona cf. pachydermoidea K. Viets, 1956 ( Fig. 4A–C View FIGURE 4 A – C )
New records: India, Assam State: Kamrup district, SW of Guwahati city, Deeper Beel wetland, between the water hyacinth Eichhornia corniculata, 26.10903N 91.68359E, 37 m asl., 8. xii. 2009, leg. Das & Bordoloi, 0/1/0 (mounted).
Remarks: The female specimen from Assam resembles Piona catatama Cook (known from southern India (see above) and P. pachydermoidea K. Viets, described from Thailand ( Piersig 1906). Our specimen has the setal tubercles on P-4 well pronounced (vs. extremly small setal tubercles in P. catatama , see Cook 1967, Fig. 575). The palps and anterior legs are missing in the original description of P. pachydermoidea, so our attribution to this species is tentative and a meaningful comparasion can only be made when a complete specimen of P. pachydermoidea from the area of locus typicus has been described.
Habitat: Ponds.
Distribution: India, Thailand.
