Levu haedulus (Fennah, 1956) View in CoL new status
Levu pallescens haedulus Fennah, 1956a: 178 View in CoL
( Figs. 155u, v)
Additional description. Forewing length: male about 3.1 mm, female about 3.3–3.4 mm. Similar to Levu paganus (Fennah) , but with a red or orange-red mark above the eyes; in other specimens examined (not in holotype) with an additional orange-red mark in front of eyes; sides of mesonotum brown. Forewing veins accompanied by broad bands of infuscation. Male genital styles without a hump between the dorsal processes.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin noun ( haedulus = a little goat) used in apposition.
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 3.1 mm), TRUK ISL., labels: 1) Truk: S. Valley / Mt. Tonaachan,/ Moen IV-2-49/ R. W.L. Potts. 2) Levu / pallescens/ haedulus/ Fenn. ( USNM #62162 About USNM ).
Other material examined: TRUK: Moen Isl. , Mt. Teroken , North, 70–80 m, 6.II.1953, 1 ♀, J.L. Gressitt ( BPBM); Moen Isl., 500 ft., 1. VI .1946, 3 ♀, R . G. Oakley ( USNM) .
Distribution. Truk Islands.
Diagnosis. Levu haedulus shows similarities to L. paganus (Fennah) from Ponape, L. samoensis Muir from Samoa and L. lactineus (Fennah) from Palau. It can be separated from those species by the forewing veins being broadly overlaid with infuscations, by the red mark above the eyes, and by the male genital styles lacking a small hump between the two dorsal processes.
