Rhotana similis Zelazny View in CoL , sp. nov.
( Fig. 235)
Description. Forewings 1.8 times longer than wide, length about 5.6 mm. Forewings with three pairs of large rounded black marks and one pair of very small marks, separated by a narrow red band; an additional short red stripe along last subcostal sector. Male genitalia with sides of pygofer with prominent lateral projections, anal segment without lateral processes. Aedeagus short and broad; apical portion with a prominent, pointed process at its base; rest of apical portion elongated, rounded, somewhat irregular in outline.
Note. Forelegs and hindwings missing in only specimen available. Externally like Rhotana fordi sp. nov. The above description has been shortened, due to this similarity.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective ( similis , -is, -e = similar).
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 5.6 mm), INDONESIA, PAPUA; labels: 1) NEW GUINEA: NETH./ Sentani , 90+ m/ June 15, 1959 2) T. C. Maa / Collector / BISHOP ( BPBM).
Distribution. New Guinea (Indonesian part).
Diagnosis. Rhotana similis is externally indistinguishable from R. fordi sp. nov., also from New Guinea. The males can be separated by the anal segment lacking lateral processes and the apical part of the aedeagus lacking a prominent pointed ventral process.
