Redescription. Forewings 1.8 times longer than wide, length 4.9–5.7 mm. Colour stramineous to light brown; margins of facial carinae and tips of fore femora orange; labium brown, tinted with red, darker near apex; fore tibiae reddish-brown, middle tibiae light brown, hind tibiae stramineous to light brown; last two abdominal pleura faintly orange. Forewings with six large and two small round, black marks lining in pairs the apical cross-veins between Cu, Cu1, Ms1b, and Ms1a; the veins separating these marks are narrowly lined with orange; all other veins stramineous; a semi-circle in front of the marks covered with white powder; rest of wing unpowdered; faintly yellow-brown, except for hyaline bands from middle of claval vein to middle of first costal cell, between hind margin and black marks, as well as just before, and just after anterior apical cross-veins; a light reddish brown mark adjacent to last subcostal sector; apical margin, and a central section of costal margin orange-red. Hindwings colourless. Vertex about twice as long as wide, lateral carinae foliaceous, separated; facial carinae foliaceous, nearly contiguous in front of the eyes; antennae small, subantennal processes large; rostrum surpassing post-trochanter; lateral carinae of pronotum foliaceous. Forewings with costal margin and Sc nearly straight; Sc+R fork before middle of wing; Ms1 branched near apex of basal median cell, both branches nearly parallel, apical part of Ms1b connected to Cu1 by a cross-vein, a large triangle at base of Ms1. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Aedeagus with apical part elongated, ending in two rounded lobes; the right one directed to the left, overlapping the left lobe, which is straight and partly membranous.

Etymology. The species name is a Latin noun ( pavo = a peacock) used in apposition.

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 5.3 mm, body 2.8 mm), INDONESIA: SUMATRA; labels: 1) J.D. Pasteur / Pad. Sidemp. [Padang Sidempoean]/ West Sumatra 2 ) HOLOTYPE / Decora pavo / det. Bierman, 1908 ( RMNH) .

Other material examined. INDONESIA: SUMATRA " Decora pavo Bierman, Edm. Schmidt determ. 1925", Medan, S.O.K. 16–18.II.1922, 1 ♂, L. Fulmek ( RMNH); EAST MALAYSIA: SABAH, Tawau, Quoin Hill , 3– 7. VII , 19.IX.1962, 1 ♂ 1 ♀, H. Holtmann, Malaise trap, and Y. Hirashima ( BPBM) .

Distribution. Sumatra, Borneo.

Diagnosis. Rhotana pavo (Bierman) closely resembles R. globosa sp. nov. from New Guinea. It can be distinguished by the forewings having stramineous apical crossveins, a thin lining of red along the veins separating the forewing marks, and by the last subcostal sector lacking a prominent red mark. In addition, the left lobe of the male aedeagus clearly surpasses the right lobe. Although the differences to R. biermani (Schmidt) from the Maluku Islands are not clear, R. pavo is darker, has slightly separated facial carinae, and large subantennal processes.
