Redescription. Forewings 2.0 times longer than wide, length about 5.8 mm. Colour stramineous; frons clypeus, mesonotum and fore legs light brown. Forewings with a conspicuous, broad, red, U-shaped band extending from middle of Cu1, along hind margin to middle of Ms2, but not surpassing Ms2; the band curves around a colourless area, covered with white powder; about 8 dark marks of different sizes lining the red band; rest of forewings light to yellowish brown, greyish-brown around the bases of Ms1 and Ms2, and colourless in a band across the wing base and in several areas near its tip; a small bright red, round mark at last subcostal sector; another small red mark in second costal cell, accompanied by a small white mark; veins red to orange-red, in basal quarter stramineous. Hindwings colourless, lightly infuscated along apical margin, and along cross-veins between Sc, R and M; veins light brown. Facial carinae contiguous up to lower level of eyes; subantennal processes well developed, slightly curved upwards; rostrum reaching hind coxae; lateral carinae of pronotum little developed. Forewings with apical part of Sc slightly sinuate; Sc+R fork slightly before middle of wing; Ms1 branched just distad of its basal quarter, a triangle at base of Ms1; apical cross-vein between Ms1a and Ms2 strongly sinuate.
Etymology. The species is named for the collector and ' dammermani ' is a latinized noun used in the genitive case.
Type material. Lectotype ♀ (here designated) (forewing 5.8, body 3.4 mm) INDONESIA: Buru Island ; labels: 1) Buru 1921/ Station 17/ leg. L.J. Toxopeus / 1300 M 2) Typus 3) Decora / Dammermani/ Schmidt/ Edm. Schmidt / ♀ determ. 1926 ( MZWP).
Note. Schmidt did not indicate on how many specimens his description was based and the only available syntype specimen is here designated as lectotype.
Distribution. Buru Island (Maluku, Indonesia).
Diagnosis. Rhotana dammermani can be easily distinguished by the conspicuous, red, U-shaped mark on the forewings.
