Description. Forewing length 4.8–5.1 mm, colourless with a small infuscated mark around last subcostal sector, apart from the marks in the basal third of the wing which are also found in other members of this species group. Male genitalia with apical part of aedeagus ending in two contiguous rounded lobes; two additional short processes arise from their sides, just distad of middle, each ending in three small teeth.
Note. Externally like Rhotana ramosa sp. nov. The description above has been shortened, due to this similarity.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (tridentatus, -a, -um = with three teeth).
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 5.1 mm), MALAYSIA: NORTH BORNEO; labels: 1) NORTH BOR- NEO ( SE)/ Forest Camp , 19 km / N. of Kalabakan / 60m, 16.XI.1962 2) Y. Hirashima / Malaise Trap / BISHOP ( BPBM) . Paratypes. NORTH BORNEO, Labuan Isl. , 28 + 29.XI.1958, 1 ♂, L. W. Quate ( BPBM); WEST MALAY- SIA : Kuala Lumpur, 19. VI .1931, 1 ♂ (fw. 4.8), at light, ex F.M.S. Museum , B.M.1955-354 ( BMNH) .
Distribution. Borneo, West Malaysia.
Diagnosis. Rhotana tridentata is externally indistinguishable from R. ramosa sp. nov. from Sumatra and R. fera sp. nov., also from Borneo. The males can be easily recognized by the apical part of the aedeagus bearing two short, lateral processes, each ending in three small teeth.
