Diagnosis. The species of the Rhotana formosana species group can be recognized by the combination of the following characters:
1. Hindwings with small black mark(s) around base(s) of Ms2 and Ms1.
2. Forewings with anterior apical crossveins lined with dark stripes.
3. Forewings with Ms1 fork distad of apex of the basal median cell.
4. Facial carinae contiguous until lower margins of eyes.
5. Male pygofer usually without lateral projections.
Distribution. Species of this group are found in Taiwan, Japan, China, Vietnam, West Malaysia, Sumatra and Java.
