( Fig. 307)

Description. Forewings 2.1 times longer than wide, length in male about 3.2 mm. Colour stramineous; a red stripe above eyes; margins of facial carinae in front of eyes light orange-brown; a longitudinal orange stripe on frons; mesonotum with a bright red, rhomboid mark; abdominal tergites brownish, pleura red, sternites stramineous. Forewings glassy; a broad, infuscated band from hind margin around clavus tip to base of Ms1; a narrow, infuscated band along apical crossveins; veins stramineous, but parts of Cu, Cu1, and Ms1 light orange; short sections of C, R, M, and hindmargin (around clavus tip) orange-red; base of Sc+R with 4 dark spots. Hindwings with a section on costal base red. In profile junction of vertex and face angulated; subantennal processes connected to margins of facial carinae by a low ridge; rostrum reaching hind coxae. Forewings with Sc+R fork at middle of wing; basal median cell broad, more than twice as wide as basal cell between Sc+R and M; a triangle at base of Ms1. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Genital styles oval; proximal dorsal process short and slender; distal dorsal process long. Aedeagus short; near apex with 2 lateral dorsal projections and with a terminal, triangular lobe, which is notched at the tip and directed ventro-caudad.

Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (pictus, -a, -um = painted).

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 3.2 mm), INDONESIA: PAPUA; labels: 1) NEW GUINEA: NETH./ Bodem , 100m, 11km / SE of Oerberfaren / July 7–17, 1959 2) T. C. Maa / Collector / BISHOP ( BPBM).

Distribution. Island of New Guinea.

Diagnosis. Saccharodite picta shows some similarities to Sa. montana sp. nov. and Sa. minuscula sp. nov., both also from New Guinea. However, it can be easily separated by the red rhomboid mark on the mesonotum, by the broad infuscated band across the forewing base, and by the structure of the male aedeagus.
