Forewings white, powdered; clouds of faint infuscation in clavus near hind margin, around first costal sector, from apex of Cu to base of Ms2, and along apical cross-veins; veins white to stramineous, but middle part of M, basal parts of Ms3 and Ms4, and all margins orange. Hindwings including veins white. Forewings with Sc+R fork just distad of basal third. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Genital styles widening towards end which is truncated. Etymology. The species is named for William Lucas Distant (1845-1922) who made important contributions to the knowledge of the Auchenorrhyncha and ' distanti ' is a latinized noun used in the genitive case.
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 2.8 mm), EAST MALAYSIA; labels: 1) NORTH BORNEO ( SE)/ Forest Camp , 19 km / N. of Kalabakan / 60m, 21.XI.1962 2) K.J. Kuncheria / Collector / Bishop ( BPBM).
Distribution. Borneo (Sabah).
Diagnosis. Sumangala distanti comes closest to Su. nubila sp. nov., also from Borneo, and to Su. delicatula Distant from Sri Lanka. It can be distinguished from these by the absence of red marks on the head and by most forewing veins being white to stramineous.
