Sumangala delicatula Distant, 1911: 643 View in CoL
( Figs. 109, 343)
Redescription. Forewings 2.0 times longer than wide, length 3.7–3.9 mm. Colour stramineous; facial carinae in front of antennae with a large orange-red mark; two more orange-red marks on pronotum behind the eyes; fore- and middle tibiae slightly tinted with orange. Forewings white, heavily powdered; a faintly infuscated mark distad of apex of Cu; veins white but some slightly infuscated: the middle part of Ms1, the veins around the base of Ms2, and the apical cross-veins between Sc and Ms2 as well as the veins surrounding these. Hindwings white. Rostrum reaching hind coxae. Forewings with Sc+R fork at end of basal third. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Genital styles slightly widening towards end which is rounded, the proximal dorsal process short and slender, the distal dorsal process wider and long, a small hump between both processes. Aedeagus small; stem slightly widening before apical part; apical part short, tapering towards its end, which bears two small, rounded lobes.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (delicatulus, -a, -um = very delicate).
Type material. Lectotype ♂ (here designated) (forewing 3.8 mm, body 2.0 mm) SRI LANKA; labels: 1) Type / H. T. 2) Sumangala delicatula Dist. 3) Pattipola / Ceylon V-1911 4) 2969 5) Distant Coll. 1911-383 ( BMNH).
Note. Distant described this species from an unspecified number of specimens from Sri Lanka "Ceylon; Nuwara Eliya, Pattipola (Green)". The BMNH contains 2 males from Pattipola which seem to represent the type series. We designate one male as lectotype which bears a type label .
Other material examined. SRI LANKA: 1 ♂ (paralectotype of S. delicatula, BMNH ); Namunukuli, II.1910 , 1 ♀; Hakgala, V.1911, 1 ♀ (both BMNH) .
Distribution. Sri Lanka. Muir (1922, p.340) reported this species from India (Castle Rock, North Kanara District). However, he noted differences in the venation, which casts doubts on this record.
Diagnosis. Sumangala delicatula Distant is similar to Su. distanti sp. nov. from Borneo, but can be easily recognized by the orange-red marks in front of the eyes and on the pronotum, by some of the forewing veins being lightly infuscated, and by the absence of any orange-red forewing veins. It also shows similarities to Su. badia sp. nov. from Borneo which however has dark reddish brown markings on the mesonotum, the pronotum and parts of the head and legs.
