Description. Forewings 1.9 times longer than wide, length in male about 3.4 mm. Colour stramineous; a red mark above eyes; margins of facial carinae in front of eyes light orange-brown; abdominal tergites slightly orange. Forewings glassy; very faintly infuscated from clavus tip to base of Ms1 and along apical crossveins; veins stramineous; apex of costa reddish; four dark spots on base of Sc+R. Hindwings colourless. In profile junction of vertex and face angulated; rostrum reaching hind trochanters. Forewings with Sc+R fork slightly before middle of wing; basal median cell broad, more than twice as wide as basal cell between Sc+R and M; a small triangle at base of Ms1. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Genital styles oval; proximal dorsal process short and slender; distal dorsal process elongated. Aedeagus with apical portion short and flat, slightly impressed dorsally; apex with an irregular, membranous lobe, directed ventrad.
Etymology. The species is named for the collector and ' joycei ' is a latinized noun used in the genitive case.
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 3.4 mm), FIJI ISLANDS; labels: 1) FIJI: Suva / 5.XII.1958 / C. R. Joyce ( BPBM).
Distribution. Fiji Islands.
Diagnosis. Saccharodite joycei resembles Sa. doddi sp. nov. from Australia. The clearest difference to this species is the shape of the apical part of the male aedeagus which is short and broad (not tapering).
