Ilyocorinae subfam. nov.
Type genus. Ilyocoris Stål, 1861 View in CoL .
Diagnosis. This subfamily contains only the Palearctic genus Ilyocoris Stål, 1861 and Neotropical Placomerus La Rivers, 1956 , which are united in having female genitalia strongly dentate on the dorsal and lateral margins of valvulae 1 and lateral margins of valvulae 2; male parameres twisted, elongated, and overlapping; and the mesofemur posterodorsal margin of both sexes fringed with a dense brush-line of hairs. For detailed diagnosis see Sites (2022).
Comments. Ilyocorini was not established as an available taxon by Zettel (2001) but was presented in quotes as a possible taxonomic scenario. Thus, in the phylogeny paper ( Sites 2022), this subfamily should have been presented as Ilyocorinae subfam. nov. instead of Ilyocorinae stat. nov. As ICZN (1999: Art. 16.1) requires ‘intention of authors to establish new nominal taxa to be explicit’, the name Ilyocorinae is not available from Sites (2022) and is validated here.
