Type material

Holotype male (BDN No.09827), CHINA: Yunnan Province, Eryuan County, Niujie Township, Futianlin, Meicihe, 2262 m, 23.V.1996, light trap, C. F. Zhou & B. X. Wang. Paratypes: 1 male (BDN No.09841), same data as holotype; 1 male (BDN No.20784), Fujian Province, Nanpin City, Maodi Township, Mangdang Mountain, 935 m, 23.IX.2002, light trap, Z. Liu.

Male imago (n = 3)

Dimensions. Total length 3.49–3.7, 3.60 mm. Wing length 1.92–2.28, 2.12 mm. Total length/wing length 1.63–1.82, 1.70. Wing length/length of profemur 2.06–2.74, 2.45.

Coloration. Head brown. Ground color of thorax darker brown, black pigmentation confined to narrow band on anteanepisternum II along anapleural suture, anterior 1/2 of preepisternum, 1/2 of median anepisternum II and anterior border of scutum ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ). Ground color of abdomen brownish, tergite I pale brown; tergite II with dark brown basal mark on both sides, tergites III–VI each with broad dark brown basal band; tergite VII entirely black; tergite VIII with broad black basal band ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ). Hypopygium dark brown. Wings with 2 pigmented areas, 1 in cell m3+4, other on humeral vein ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ). Legs brown.

Head. AR 1.18–1.29 (antennae of No. 20784 were lost). Temporal setae 14–16, 15; including 10 verticals and 4–6, 5 postorbitals. Clypeus with 16–24, 19 setae. Tentorium 135–150, 145 µm long, 23–40, 29 µm wide. Palpomere 1–5 lengths (µm): 40–53, 47; 78–83, 80; 140–168, 153; 160–180, 172; 260–315, 282.

Wing ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ). VR 0.89–0.97, 0.92. Brachiolum with 2 long setae. Squama with 22–24, 23 setae.

Thorax. Antepronotal setae 4; dorsocentrals 26–32, 28; acrostichals 21–22, 21; prescutellars 1; supraalars 2; prealars 7–8, 8; scutellars 6–16, 11.

Legs. Spur on fore tibia 30–48, 38 µm long with 5 lateral teeth. Spurs on mid tibia 43–45, 44 and 53–60, 55 µm long with 6 lateral teeth. Spurs on hind tibia 38–50, 43 and 60–65, 63 µm long with 5 lateral teeth. Tibial comb on hind leg of 6 setae. Lengths (µm) and proportions of legs as in Table 1 View TABLE 1 .

Hypopygium ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ). Tergite IX with irregular slightly concave row of 16–19, 18 setae. Gonocoxite 155–175, 164 µm long. Gonostylus 133–140, 137µm long. Median volsella 33–53, 43 µm long, 30–43, 37 µm wide. HR 1.13–1.32, 1.20. HV 2.49–2.73, 2.64.

Distribution

This species was found in a southwestern province (Yunnan Province) and a southeastern province (Fujian Province) of Oriental China.

Diagnosis

This new species differs from other known species of the genus Hayesomyia by the overall fuscous coloration of the body and the markings of the body and wings.
