Species of the genus Micratya show a reduced branchial formula ( Fig. 2), lacking pleurobranchies on fifth pereiopod. There are also no epipods on the fourth pereiopod. For these characters Micratya is similar to the genus Halocaridina from Hawaii, but Micratya has one well developed and one reduced arthrobranch at third maxilliped and podobranchies on second maxilliped. This character combination resembles the genus Limnocaridella , but the latter lacks podobranchies at second maxilliped.
