( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1–2 , 3 View FIGURES 3–4 , 5, 6 View FIGURES5–8 )

Type. Dutch New Guinea [ Indonesia, West Papua]. Holotype male, Cyclops Mts, Mt. Lina , 1067–1372 m, L.E. Cheesman, iii.1936 . Paratype male, same data as holotype ( NHM) .

Diagnosis. Forewings above with medial projecting tooth outwards less prominent than in V. ranensis (Prout), V. variovinosa Schmidt or V. vinosa (Warren). In the male genitalia, uncus slightly shorter and broader at base than in V. ranensis, valvae with medium-sized, curved, projecting apical process slightly longer and thicker than in V. variovinosa, and saccus similar to V. ranensis but broader.

Description. Labial palpi blackish-brown, with some pale ochreous scales at the apex and at base of the second segment. Legs brown, without distinct rings of lighter scales. Wing expanse 35–36 mm (n = 2). Forewings above ochreous to rather dark brown, with median band distinct, brown, with some ochreous and pinkish-brown scales, edged with a thin, wavy, white line, with a small medial projecting tooth outwards, with a very short, rounded posterior projecting tooth, with basal band ochreous-brown, with a distinct oval, blackish discal dot, underneath ochreous-brown, with pinkish scales, with several interrupted, wavy, dark brown median lines, forming a shallow, rounded medial projection outwards, with a somewhat oval blackish discal dot. Hind wings above rather dark brown at base, with wavy, alternative, dark brown and pale ochreous lines in the basal half, with white, wavy medial line, with dark brown scales at veins, underneath coloured and patterned similar to forewings, but with median line without medial projection, with a distinct discal dot ( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1–2 , 3 View FIGURES 3–4 ). Male genitalia ( Figs 5, 6 View FIGURES5–8 ). Uncus small, short and broad, triangular shaped, with blunt apex, fused with tegumen; tegumen short, with lateral swollen prominences at base of uncus, with medium-sized arms of gnathos directed towards juxta; valvae with costa relatively thin, sclerotised, with medium-sized, curved, projecting apical process, with rather large, triangle subapical prominence and with medium-sized basal projection; saccus rather broad, triangular shaped; juxta with medium-sized, apically rounded lateral papillae; aedeagus almost straight, rather thick for the genus, with anellus broadly covered with spines, with a rather large patch of numerous stout cornuti and with a very large patch of thick scobination in vesica. Female unknown.

Distribution. Indonesia (West Papua).
